Solar Eclipse
Join Gather for the totality phenomenon of the solar eclipse, April 8, 2024
Who wants to go camping and witness a natural phenomenon?
On April 8, 2024 Gather Campground will be hosting a solar eclipse party for all of our guests who enjoy the outdoors and want to experience the totality of this rare solar event that only happens on average every 345 years and will not occur again in this area until August 12, 2045!
Belton, TX is such a special place to watch the April 8, 2024 solar eclipse. Here are several factors that will make Gather Campground such a prime viewing spot for RVers to watch the solar eclipse:
- We lie in the path of totality, which means that we are in the place where the moon will completely cover the sun during the eclipse.
- Being in the path of totality means that we will experience the longest duration of totality, where the moon covers the sun and the environment around us is dramatically shaded, even dark.
- Gather Campground will remain in totality (relative darkness in the middle of the day!) for three minutes and 51 seconds. For reference, the longest any point in the USA will experience the shadow of totality is in Southern Illinois, where it will last for four minutes and 27 seconds.
- Belton is a small town, making for less light pollution, so when the moon covers the sun it will feel darker than if you were in a larger city with many artificial lights.
If you haven’t heard of a solar eclipse, you might be wondering what makes it so cool. Well:
- They only happen on average every 345 years, so it might be a good idea to check it out on April 8!
- When the moon covers the sun the natural environment gets darker and you can even see stars that weren’t visible just a moment earlier.
- The temperature is expected to drop up to 10 degrees at the campground, all in the matter of minutes, freaky!
- Animals and plants are often confused and can behave differently, think of some animals going to sleep, flowers closing, or even bats coming out in the middle of the day.
- When the moon completely covers the sun, the corona (the sun’s outer atmosphere) is visible, and is evidently beautiful…we can’t wait to see it for ourselves 👀
Drive your RV to Gather Campground and join us for what will certainly be a rare phenomenon. We’ll have planned activities available to join throughout the weekend, lots of delicious food and drinks to purchase, and plenty of open spaces to hang out with friends and family to create memories that we hope will last your lifetime.
A few items that we encourage you to bring:
- Your RV 🤣
- Special glasses to safely watch the eclipse
- A sweatshirt or jacket when the temperature drops during totality
- Blankets or chairs to kick back on our main lawn to take in the entire experience
- A good attitude 🤙
We look forward to seeing you soon!
